Alex Mills: Well hey there, and welcome to Pro Church Daily, the show where in 10 minutes or less, you’ll get your daily dose of tips and tactics to help your church share the message of Jesus, while we navigate the biggest communication shift in the last 500 years. I’m your host Alex Mills, and I’m joined as always by the boss man, Brady Shearer. Today we’re talking about the best social media platform for your church.

Brady Shearer: It comes down to simple data Alex, the best social media platform for your church. 68% of all Americans are active on Facebook.

Alex Mills: Yep.

Brady Shearer: Seven out of every 10 people in your community are active on Facebook. Active, not just have an account.

Alex Mills: Right.

Brady Shearer: Not just signed up once and never logged in, active on social-

Alex Mills: They’re updating their status, they’re checking in, they’re posting GIF’s, or GIF’s.

Brady Shearer: They’re sliding into the Facebook message DM’s.

Alex Mills: Yes.

Brady Shearer: Sliding. And so, that’s what makes it the best because at the end of the day, attention, it’s the most valuable commodity that your church can possess.

Alex Mills: Yeah.

Brady Shearer: And one of the easiest ways to gain attention, is to go where that attention is already being paid. The second biggest social platform behind Facebook is the brother company of Instagram, owned by the same crew. And it’s right around 30% of American’s that are active on that platform.

Alex Mills: Yeah.

Brady Shearer: So, the second place contender to Facebook’s crown and reign isn’t even close.

Alex Mills: No.

Brady Shearer: That means that you should, as a church, be prioritizing Facebook above all the other social platforms, unless you are a church that skews incredibly young.

Alex Mills: Right.

Brady Shearer: Because Instagram does have the stranglehold on the millennial, Gen Z demographic.

Alex Mills: Yeah.

Brady Shearer: So if your church is extraordinarily young, if you’re a student ministry, or you’re a young adult’s ministry, then yeah, focus on Instagram, SnapChat if you’re a youth student ministry.

Alex Mills: Right.

Brady Shearer: But for the average church, Facebook is by far the absolute best platform to spend your time, simply because of the attention. Let’s imagine a scenario for a moment. I want you to imagine that there is a new shopping plaza that is coming into your town. And, it’s not just any shopping plaza. It’s going to be the biggest one that has ever existed in your community. It is going to dwarf any other strip mall, little shopping plaza, it’s going to blow it away.

Alex Mills: Yep.

Brady Shearer: It’s the mall to end all malls, okay?

Alex Mills: Nice.

Brady Shearer: And, what’s really cool about this mall, is that every single type of industry in the community is setting up shop there. There’s going to be some gyms, there’s going to be pharmacies, there’s going to be banks, there’s going to be real estate brokers, there’s going to be-

Alex Mills: You know there’s going to be a coffee shop.

Brady Shearer: … There’s going to be coffee, on coffee, on coffee.

Alex Mills: Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Brady Shearer: And what’s really cool about this mall, is that they’re super altruistic. I don’t know why, but they must have their costs paid for, or maybe the real estate isn’t as expensive as it once was. And they’re offering a spot to your church. You can set up shop in this shopping plaza free of rent.

Alex Mills: Wow.

Brady Shearer: You don’t have to pay any rent, at all. They’re going to give you good space, they’re going to put a place … You know, it’s not prime real estate in the shopping plaza-

Alex Mills: But it’s there.

Brady Shearer: … But, people are walking there.

Alex Mills: Yeah.

Brady Shearer: There’s still people there.

Alex Mills: This sounds like it could be too good to be true.

Brady Shearer: In the real world, it would be. But in the digital world, it is not. This is the opportunity that Facebook is offering to every one of our churches.

Alex Mills: It’s amazing.

Brady Shearer: And sure, if you want to pay a little bit, they’ll give you even more exposure.

Alex Mills: Yeah.

Brady Shearer: But they’re still going to let you get that exposure for free.

Alex Mills: Yeah.

Brady Shearer: What’s crazy is, Zuckerberg and friends have done all the hard work. They’ve created this platform, they’ve amassed the billion plus users and attention, and then they’re just like, “Oh yeah, you want to take advantage and leverage our audience, our platform, and our hard work? Sure, that’s fine. Yeah.” I-

Alex Mills: Go ahead.

Brady Shearer: … Every single week get asked by other companies, and by other places, “Hey, can we send out an email to Pro Church Nation? Because your audience is incredibly engaged.”

Alex Mills: Yes.

Brady Shearer: I say, “Uh, heck no. Get behind me Satan. I will defend Pro Church Nation.”

Alex Mills: Yeah.

Brady Shearer: “And their attention with my life. I don’t want to just spam them, because their attention is so valuable to me and our company.” Facebook is like, “Yeah it’s important, but we’ll give it to you for free.”

Alex Mills: Yeah.

Brady Shearer: Which is amazing.

Alex Mills: Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Brady Shearer: That’s what you’re having with Facebook. That’s what makes it the single biggest and best platform to use. One, because of the size. It’s got more people than anyone else. Two, because of the attention. And three, one thing that we haven’t talked about, is the targeting. You can target on Facebook using ads, this is where it does come in to pay to play. But using their ads, you can target mom’s of a certain age in your city, that have … Like single mom’s, or with kids who like peanut butter and jelly-

Alex Mills: Yeah, it’s amazing.

Brady Shearer: … Who live like in a one kilometer radius. It’s insane.

Alex Mills: Yeah.

Brady Shearer: We’ve never had a platform of this size. We’ve also never had a platform that is this specific. We’ve also never had a platform that is those two things, and this affordable.

Alex Mills: Right.

Brady Shearer: Attention is still under priced on Facebook, so if you’re going to get into ads beyond the free stuff that we’re talking about, best way is to use Facebook because of those three things we just mentioned.

Alex Mills: Yeah. I love what you’ve said in the past. If you knew that seven out of 10 people in your community were going to be gathered in one place every day, would your church have a presence there?

Brady Shearer: Would you ignore it? Of course not.

Alex Mills: No, you’d be there. You’d be meeting your community, you’d be engaging with them, you’d be offering them help when they need it, or whatever your church does, whatever you’re good at. You’d be there doing it. And this is the opportunity we have, for free. So let’s do it.

Brady Shearer: Yeah, take it. It’s yours.

Alex Mills: Yeah.

Brady Shearer: And, that’ll do it for this episode of Pro Church Daily. But before we go, we wanted to talk to you about Story Tape, and this plays right into-

Alex Mills: It does.

Brady Shearer: The Facebook thing, because Facebook does this really cool thing where if you use video in your content, Facebook will give you a bunch of extra organic reach for free. So sure, they’ll let you setup shop for free, and then if you do the things they want you to do, they’ll give you even all of these extra bonuses, including more organic-

Alex Mills: For free.

Brady Shearer: … Reach. It’s like, “Hey, we’re going to let you setup shop in this space for free. If you have an actual well designed storefront, we’ll then send more people your way.”

Alex Mills: Yeah.

Brady Shearer: “Really? All I have to do is do things well and you’ll show my stuff to even more people?”

Alex Mills: Yes.

Brady Shearer: “Correct.” And the way to do that, is with video.

Alex Mills: Yeah.

Brady Shearer: The algorithm prioritizes it. Of course if you’re stuck with video, one of the easiest ways to get started is to download the unlimited number of clips on Store Tape, that we are offering to you, StoreTape.com. We’ve got more than 6,000 4K, 10 bit, pro-res clips ready for download. They’ve got an amazing search engine, a browsing matrix, we’re releasing new clips, new scenes every single Friday, and for the month of January we’re doing some really special. Not just the clips and the footage, but we want to give you video templates that go along with this. We’re thinking to ourselves, “How can we make the video production process for our churches that we love, these pastors and leaders. How could we make it even easier?”

Well, we’re giving you all the footage already shot, already color graded, ready to go. Well now we’re actually going to give you templates.

Alex Mills: Right.

Brady Shearer: In square aspect ratios, so they take up more real estate on someone’s mobile device, they’re made natively for Facebook.

Alex Mills: Right.

Brady Shearer: You can also get them in rectangles, 16 by nine aspect ratio for Sunday mornings-

Alex Mills: A cover video.

Brady Shearer: … For your television screen, for your cover video.

Alex Mills: Yeah.

Brady Shearer: And we’ve got 25 of these video templates designed, animated, ready to go inside of After Effects. All you have to do is take the footage, drop it into the templates, and you’re good to go.

Alex Mills: So wait, you’re telling me Facebook is free?

Brady Shearer: Facebook is free.

Alex Mills: Organic reach boosts with video posts is free?

Brady Shearer: Free.

Alex Mills: And now you’re telling me, 25 video templates for free?

Brady Shearer: For free.

Alex Mills: Wow.

Brady Shearer: StoryTape.com is the place to do it. We’re only giving away these templates to you, viewer or listener of Pro Church Daily. And we’re only doing it for the month of January. So head to StoryTape.com, sign up for Story Tape Unlimited. Use the coupon code, “Daily,” D-A-I-L-Y.

Alex Mills: Yes.

Brady Shearer: That’ll give you 10% off your subscription forever, and it will also let you know you came from Pro Church Daily. It will tell our system, “Yo, give this person the templates-”

Alex Mills: Yep.

Brady Shearer: “… Cause they are a baller.”

Alex Mills: Yes.

Brady Shearer: That’ll do it for this episode of Pro Church Daily. We’ll see you tomorrow.
